Free-to-play version of the publisher’s franchise aimed squarely at the hardcore market.EA has announced Battlefield Play4Free, a free-to-play title based on its Battlefield 2 and Bad Company retail games. Unlike microtransaction-funded casual game Battlefield Heroes, Play4Free will focus on core gamers.

Dave Perry, Gaikai CEO and developer of cult platformer Earthworm Jim, reckons there will be a 3DTV in every home in eight or nine years.
His prediction conflicts with Ubisoft’s: the French games company told Eurogamer there will be a 3D telly in every home in just three years.
“How long does your TV last today? 10 years. This cycle will probably go a little quicker because of the killer app-ness of it,” Perry told Eurogamer at the London Games Conference in BAFTA last night.

General manager parts company with the Bodycount developer.
Codemasters Guildford general manager Adrian Bolton has left the developer, as reported by Eurogamer. His departure follows creative director Stuart Black’s exit in July.

Big US chains are out of stock.
Microsoft’s Kinect system is, as anticipated, selling like gangbusters, with some of the biggest retail chains in the US all out of stock.
According to a report in USA Today, the new motion control gizmo is sold out at Best Buy, Target and GameStop’s online stores. Amazon.com isn’t taking any more orders either, though you can still grab it bundled with a console.
WalMart apparently has a few left, but a spokesperson warned, “there is going to be very high demand for these products. We will continue to restock throughout the season.”

Capcom launches hunt for best drawing.
Capcom’s launched a competition to get fan artwork into the official Marvel Vs Capcom 3 art book to be released with the special edition of the game.
The winning entry will get an Xbox 360, a copy of MVC3 and a framed print of their piece of work.
Just know this: no hentai allowed.

Slow sales to blame for drastic drop in publisher’s net income.
Square Enix has published its first half results covering the six month period ending September 30. The company reported a decline in profit to 1723 million yen ($21 million), down from 6826 million yen ($85 million) last quarter – a drop of 75 per cent.

Battle Islands or your friends.
Wii game Worms Battle Islands will launch on 26th November, THQ has confirmed.
“Reasons to pay attention to yet another rehash of Team17’s turn-based warhorse might seem elusive, but how’s this: Battle Islands is that rare beast, an online multiplayer game for the Wii with a proper, contemporary feature-set,” wrote Eurogamer’s Oli Welsh when he previewed the game as a WiiWare title late last year.
Somewhere along the food chain Battle Islands was upgraded to a retail release.
