PSP game passes another milestone in Japan, becomes fastest-selling game in Capcom’s history.
Less than two weeks after it sold 2 million copies , Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has passed another milestone. Today, Capcom announced the PSP title has sold over 3 million units in just 17 days in the island nation. The sales rate makes the game not just the fastest-selling PSP game in the publisher’s history, but also its overall fastest-selling title to date.
Capcom attributed the game’s popularity to a series of trans-media promotions. These include a television anime, a variety of spin-off products, and several mobile phone tie-ins. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd’s success also boosted overall sales of the Monster Hunter franchise, which now total 16 million units.
A sequel to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (known as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G in Japan), Monster Hunter Portable 3rd offers new hunting areas and monstrous prey. It also sports a new Feylene system and lets players customize their companions’ equipment loadouts when embarking on hunts. The game sports the same ad hoc co-op mode that has made the series so popular in Japan.
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has no US release date as of yet. For a closer look at the game, check out its trailer from this year’s Tokyo Game Show, viewable below.
